Disk Space

Disk Space refers to the amount of bytes on a disk available for recording or storing data.

When referring to web hosts, "Disk space" (also called "web space") is a term used to describe the server hard disk drive space where a web site is stored. This space is used to store HTML, PHP or ASP files, images, etc. Uploaded files to the server hosting your website consume a portion of that quota.

These days, it is common to offer basically unlimited "web space" (even for shared hosting accounts). Hosting providers that offer "unmetered disk space" or even shared hosting packages that offer 600GB of space are doing that simply because it became a trend.

No company really intended to supply these amounts of web space. Looking carefully at the terms & conditions of each of these hosting companies will reveal that there is a CPU limit which prevents you from being able to use these amounts of space on the server's hard drive.

if you do look for a hosting company that offer unlimited disk space see the ixWebHosting.com company that offer these kind of linux based shared hosting packages.
